Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund Danantara has targeted Rp1 trillion, or about US$60 million, in corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to support disaster relief efforts in Sumatra.

Speaking during a meeting in Aceh on Thursday, Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani told President Prabowo Subianto that the CSR funds are being used to develop temporary housing for flood survivors.

He said the involvement of SOEs allows the government to respond quickly to disasters, avoiding budgetary and administrative constraints that often delay the disbursement of state funds.

Roeslani added that SOEs have so far disbursed Rp655 billion for the development of the temporary housing complex.

The housing complex is being built on land owned by state-owned plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN), with several other SOEs involved in the construction process.

Development of the complex began on December 24 to accommodate residents affected by landslides and flash floods that struck the region in late November.

A total of 600 temporary housing units completed in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh, are ready to be handed over to local authorities to shelter disaster victims before they move into permanent homes.

Danantara is targeting the construction of up to 15,000 temporary housing units over the next three months in disaster-hit areas of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
