“Services must continue to improve. We are committed to that principle—while ticket prices rise, facilities and the visitor experience must also show real progress,” The Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency (MCB), Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin stated on Tuesday.
She expressed appreciation for the public’s attention to the issue, noting: “We understand and are grateful for the strong public concern for the National Museum.”
Starting January 1, 2026, the entrance fee for adult visitors rises from Rp25,000 to Rp50,000 (US$3).
Nurjadin explained that the decision followed careful review, highlighting the need to maintain collections in line with international conservation standards.
“The adjustment is necessary so that the National Museum and its collections can be preserved according to global standards, while remaining a comfortable and meaningful space for the public,” she said.
The National Museum of Indonesia is responsible for safeguarding the nation’s archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and numismatic heritage.
Like many museums worldwide, it relies on a mix of government funding, philanthropy, and ticket sales to sustain operations and public services.
The Ministry of Culture, which oversees cultural heritage institutions, has approved the fee increase. Special concessions will remain in place for persons with disabilities, senior citizens over 60, and holders of Indonesia’s Smart Card (KIP) and KIP Kuliah.
Revenue from ticket sales will be reinvested into collection maintenance and service improvements, ensuring the museum continues to serve as a vital cultural institution for both domestic and international audiences.
