“The transition period is a crucial phase to ensure that recovery efforts are well planned and properly coordinated,” said M. Nasir, Regional Secretary and Head of the Aceh Disaster Emergency Response Post, on Wednesday.
The North Aceh District government has set a one-month emergency transition period toward recovery, running from January 6 to February 5, 2026.
During this phase, North Aceh is focusing on rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, including accelerating the preparation of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P).
The R3P serves as the main reference for recovery activities and requires all local government agencies to act swiftly and in coordination.
Meanwhile, Bener Meriah District has declared a 90-day transition period from emergency response to recovery, effective from January 7 to April 6, 2026.
According to a statement from the Bener Meriah Communications and Informatics Office, the transition period marks a shift from emergency handling to broader recovery efforts, with a focus on restoring social, economic, and infrastructure conditions.
However, the disaster command system remains in place to ensure the fulfillment of basic community needs, protection for vulnerable groups, and the initial stages of socio-economic recovery.
Nasir said the declaration formally ended the emergency response phase and marked the beginning of a stronger focus on rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He urged the public to remain vigilant against the risk of subsequent flooding during the transition and recovery period and to support recovery efforts so that daily activities can return to normal as soon as possible.
In addition, the Aceh provincial government is encouraging affected districts to accelerate damage assessments and restore basic public services.
“Infrastructure repairs are also underway to ensure that post-disaster response efforts are targeted and effective,” he said.
Flash floods struck several areas in Aceh on November 25, 2025. As of January 6, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency reported 543 fatalities and 217,780 displaced people across the province.
