Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counterterrorism Agency, or BNPT, plans to introduce an identity detection feature for Roblox game account registration using a smartphone’s front-facing camera.

BNPT Head Eddy Hartono said the feature will verify users’ ages through a facial biometric system to restrict children’s access to inappropriate content.

“Roblox will likely be equipped with a camera feature, so every child who creates an account will have their face captured for age verification,” Hartono said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that the initiative is intended to protect children and women, who are considered the most vulnerable groups in the digital space, particularly in online gaming platforms such as Roblox.

According to Hartono, supervision in the digital space must be carried out jointly by the government and online game developers as part of efforts to protect vulnerable groups from exposure to violent extremism.

“It is not only the government’s responsibility. Digital platforms are also being asked to implement protective measures to prevent children from easily creating accounts or accessing social media and online games without proper safeguards,” he said.

Hartono noted that cases involving children exposed to such risks have been identified in Jakarta, with 15 children recorded so far.

He added that the issue is more widespread, particularly in Jakarta, Central Java, West Java, and East Java, prompting the need for stronger interventions to protect victims from trauma and safeguard their future.

Hartono emphasized that such protection is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

To that end, monitoring efforts will be carried out in collaboration with various parties, including the Communication and Digital Ministry, through the issuance of a ministerial regulation as part of broader efforts to regulate the use of digital space.
