Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with senior Turkish military officials on Friday to explore deeper defense cooperation, including joint development in the military industry, during a working visit to Ankara.

The meeting was held at the ASELSAN defense complex, where Sjafrie held talks with the Chief of the Turkish Armed Forces, according to an official statement received by ANTARA.

Sjafrie said Indonesia views Turkiye as a strategic partner in strengthening national defense self-reliance, particularly through cooperation in defense technology and military industrial development.

He said future cooperation is expected to support a sustainable defense industry ecosystem, enhance troop professionalism, and strengthen defense capabilities amid an increasingly complex global security environment.

Following the talks, Sjafrie and his delegation visited ASELSAN’s defense industry facilities to gain firsthand insight into Turkiye’s technological capabilities and recent defense innovations.

The visit was aimed at broadening mutual understanding and opening opportunities for more concrete defense cooperation between the two countries in the future.

Sjafrie expressed hope that military relations between Indonesia and Turkiye will continue to expand, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships in the defense industry sector.
