“In carrying out its mandate as President of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia is committed to performing its duties in an impartial, inclusive, and objective manner,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said when contacted by ANTARA on Saturday.
Mulachela said that in fulfilling the role, Indonesia will lead all processes and sessions of the UNHRC and ensure that all programs scheduled for the current year are implemented effectively.
He said the approach will be pursued through stronger cross-regional dialogue and constructive engagement with all stakeholders.
“Indonesia prioritizes strengthening cross-regional dialogue and constructive engagement among stakeholders,” he said.
Mulachela explained that Indonesia’s leadership of the UNHRC continues the country’s long-standing record in international human rights diplomacy.
Indonesia has previously held key positions at both the UN Commission on Human Rights and the UN Human Rights Council, highlighting its active role in promoting and protecting human rights at the global level.
He added that Indonesia’s leadership at the UNHRC is expected to be constructive and serve as momentum to strengthen human rights policies, institutions, and practices at the national level.
According to Mulachela, the leadership role also reinforces Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining consistency between its human rights diplomacy abroad and efforts to strengthen human rights domestically.
“This is pursued, among other measures, through regulatory improvements, capacity building for relevant institutions, and, importantly, expanding space for dialogue with civil society,” he said.
