Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara (IKN), located in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, on Monday afternoon, marking his first presidential visit to the future seat of government.

He began his inaugural visit to IKN at the Garuda Palace after completing a series of activities earlier in the day in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, and Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.

According to a live broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat monitored in Jakarta, Prabowo landed at the palace complex aboard a Super Puma helicopter and was welcomed by Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono and several members of the Red and White Cabinet.

The president was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Wearing his trademark safari shirt, the head of state greeted officials before boarding a vehicle that took him to another location in Nusantara, which is being developed across parts of North Penajam Paser District and Kutai Kartanegara District.

He is scheduled to hold a limited meeting with cabinet members later the same day.

The visit marked Prabowo’s first trip to Nusantara since officially assuming the presidency on October 20, 2024. He traveled to the planned capital after inaugurating 166 tuition-free schools under the Sekolah Rakyat program in Banjarbaru and officiating Indonesia’s largest oil refinery in Balikpapan.

Prabowo’s visit followed an official trip by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to Nusantara in late December 2025.

During his two-day visit, Gibran reviewed the ongoing development of key infrastructure and facilities, including schools, a market, and buildings designated for legislative and judicial institutions.

He stated that the government aims to complete the legislative and judicial complexes by 2027, in line with President Prabowo’s target of designating Nusantara as the capital for political affairs the following year.
