Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta's regionally owned enterprise, Perumda Dharma Jaya, plans to import 7,500 live cattle from Australia to secure the beef supply for city residents throughout 2026.

Perumda Dharma Jaya President Director Raditya Endra Budiman stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the policy aims to stabilize supply and prices for strategic food commodities, particularly ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

The planned imports are currently awaiting approval from the Trade Ministry.

"We are still waiting for import approval. Hopefully, it will be issued by the end of January so we can begin the purchasing process," Budiman said.

He noted that live cattle import approvals must be renewed annually and do not carry over from the previous year.

If the permits are finalized as scheduled, cattle purchases will begin in February 2026.

Shipments are estimated to arrive two to three weeks after transactions are completed.

Budiman confirmed that the imports will be conducted in stages to match the company’s current holding capacity.

"Our barn in Serang can accommodate around 1,300 cattle. Out of the 7,500 total, we expect an initial arrival of 750," he explained.

Perumda Dharma Jaya is currently seeking additional land to house another 1,000 cattle, as the Serang site cannot be expanded due to its designation as an agro-tourism area.
