Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government is preparing a bill on Countering Disinformation and Foreign Propaganda to counter various types of disinformation and propaganda directed at Indonesia.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra on Wednesday said that many misunderstandings still linger in news and information from external parties regarding national developments and interests, which are used as propaganda material to corner Indonesia.

"This is not only in the political sphere, but also in the economic sphere, especially related to competition," he spoke to media.

He said that while preparations are underway, there is still no official draft of the Bill on Countering Disinformation and Foreign Propaganda, as it remains under review.

Mahendra revealed that President Prabowo Subianto had previously instructed him and Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas to begin considering various steps related to the bill's development.

Moreover, he noted that many countries already have similar laws in place to counter disinformation and propaganda directed at a country, a practice that Indonesia has also experienced.

He also pointed to the economic sector, noting widespread propaganda that portrays domestic products as inferior, citing claims that Indonesian coconut oil is unhealthy as an example.

"This also applies to other products. But in reality, this is an attempt to counter propaganda or false information, with the real goal being unfair economic competition," he remarked.

Previously, the 10th Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the Second Session Period of the 2025–2026 Session Year approved changes to the list of the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas) for Priority Bills for 2026 on Monday (December 8, 2025), which contains 64 bills and five open cumulative bills.

Furthermore, 199 bills are included in the Second Amendment Prolegnas for the 2025–2029 or medium-term bill.
