Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi has assessed that moris pineapple can be developed as a leading commodity in transmigration areas, as it can be processed into value-added products that support the local economy.

He said the development of moris pineapple is not limited to fresh consumption, but also offers broad downstream opportunities, ranging from processed beverages to fiber-based derivative products.

“We will prepare a plan to develop moris pineapple through a moris pineapple production house program because it turns out that every part of this pineapple is useful,” Mauladi said here on Saturday.

Speaking at the 2026 Pineapple Festival at the Transmigration Community Training and Empowerment Center (BPPMT), the government wants each transmigration area to have a clearly defined leading commodity.

Hence, with a leading commodity, downstream industries and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can become new centers of economic growth.

At the event, some MSME players showcased various processed products made from moris pineapple.

The products on display included pineapple chips, pineapple-based cakes, syrup, as well as fibers and strands from pineapple leaves processed into value-added materials.

“All products that we will implement in transmigration areas are prepared at the training center, then prospective transmigrants are trained according to the leading products of their destination areas,” he said.

On the same occasion, Mauladi together with BPPMT Pekanbaru Head Ahmad Syahir inaugurated the Moris Pineapple Education Center, which will function as a facility for cultivation, training, and development of moris pineapple in transmigration areas.

The education center is expected to serve as a learning platform for farmers, prospective transmigrants, and surrounding communities to improve cultivation and processing skills.
