Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said labor-intensive programs are helping drive community economic activity in disaster-affected areas of Sumatra.

"Since December 12, 2025, we have also launched labor-intensive programs involving more than 30,100 local workers, thereby helping stimulate the local economy," Hanggodo said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to him, the response has been carried out in an integrated manner covering the sectors of roadd, water resources, housing, and strategic infrastructure to ensure the recovery of basic infrastructure and the continuity of community activities.

The government has deployed approximately 1,377 Public Works Ministry personnel, including 402 young members, supported by 1,366 military personnel and community members.

The ministry has also mobilized 1,937 units of heavy equipment and 500 units of supporting facilities along with 6,352 construction materials for disaster response in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces.

Through the cash-for-work program, the Public Works Ministry has conducted recovery efforts that not only rebuild infrastructure, but also revive the livelihoods of affected residents.

The program not only accelerates infrastructure recovery, but also provides job opportunities and income for local communities.

Minister Hanggodo said post-disaster handling must not stop at physical reconstruction alone, but should also restart the wheels of the community economy.

"Our tasks include cleanup around the clock with military, police, and community support through labor-intensive schemes. We must move quickly to restore the economy," he said.

In addition, the Public Works Ministry has optimized the use of small equipment, to ensure that cleanup activities remain effective and are able to reach all residential areas and public facilities.
