Head of the Bandung SAR Office Ade Dian said that on the fifth day, the joint SAR team recovered two additional body bags, which were handed over to the West Java Regional Police’s Disaster Victim Identification team for identification.
“As of 4 p.m., a total of 53 body bags have been recovered, and the DVI team has identified 38 victims,” he said on Wednesday.
Based on updated data from the disaster management agency, the number of residents affected by the landslide increased to 155, comprising 75 survivors and 80 people initially reported missing.
Of those reported missing, Dian said 53 victims have been found by the joint SAR team, leaving 27 people still unaccounted for.
“Therefore, the total number of body bags recovered on the fifth day was two, all from sector A2,” he added.
According to Dian, persistent rainfall in Cisarua and surrounding areas since the morning hampered search operations.
He said the joint SAR team also expanded the search area by redeploying some personnel from sector A2 to sector B2 after a field evaluation indicated the potential presence of victims in that area.
Dian confirmed that the search operation will continue for the next 14 days, in line with the government’s decision to declare a disaster emergency response.
“In accordance with the disaster emergency response status, the SAR operation is planned to continue for 14 days and will be evaluated on the seventh day,” he said.
The landslide struck Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua sub-district, West Bandung District, early Saturday (January 24) after prolonged heavy rainfall triggered soil and mud movement that buried residential areas.
