The Operations Director of the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Yudhi Bramantyo N, on Thursday said that the team continues the operation while prioritizing personnel safety factors due to rain, fog, and the potential for further landslides.
"We are continuing the search on the sixth day as we did the previous day. The main challenge remains the weather," he stated.
In addition to manual searches, the SAR team also deployed K-9 sniffer dogs to help detect victims suspected of being buried under landslide debris, especially in high-risk areas.
According to Yudhi, the search efforts the previous day were not optimal due to the extreme weather. However, he hopes that today's field conditions will allow for improved evacuation results compared to the previous day.
During the operation, the joint SAR team deployed at least 17 units of heavy equipment and continues to seek additional large-capacity equipment to expedite the search and evacuation process at the affected locations.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bandung SAR Office, Ade Dian Permana, stated that as of Wednesday (January 28), 53 body bags had been handed over to the National Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team, with 41 of them successfully identified.
Furthermore, the Head of the Basarnas Sector A1 Team, Agung, stated that the search was continuing despite the drizzly weather, while still monitoring weather conditions.
"This morning, we conducted a search of the area, involving Basarnas personnel and K-9 sniffer dogs. We have already combed the area for Sector A1, but have not yet yielded any results. On the sixth day, we will shift our focus to Sector B1," he explained.
Agung said Basarnas has mapped all search sectors and assessed each area for potential victims.
"This means that it's not just A1, but every sector could still have victims," he pointed out.
Earlier, a landslide occurred in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua Sub-district, West Bandung District on early Saturday (January 24), triggered by prolonged heavy rain that caused soil and mud to shift, covering residential areas.
