Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said he will soon launch the Indonesia ASRI movement, a nationwide initiative aimed at creating safer, cleaner and more attractive environments as part of efforts to improve public welfare and tourism appeal.

Opening the 2026 National Coordination Meeting of central and regional governments in Bogor, West Java, on Monday, Prabowo said ASRI stands for safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful (aman, sehat, bersih, indah), reflecting practical goals for daily governance.

He said the movement would prioritise visible improvements on the ground, including environmental cleanliness and better management of public spaces, to enhance quality of life and attract foreign tourists to Indonesia.

“In the near future, I plan to launch what I call the Indonesia ASRI Movement: safe, healthy, clean and beautiful,” Prabowo said, explaining that “resik” refers to cleanliness, order and discipline.

Prabowo said all government institutions must play an active role and set an example, including through regular community clean-up activities involving civil servants, schools and local communities.

He said such activities need not be lengthy, but coordinated, simultaneous action across regions could deliver significant results within a short period of time.

To support the initiative, the government will provide additional facilities such as garbage carts and waste collection trucks to ensure the smooth implementation of large-scale clean-up efforts.

“All government institutions must lead these clean-up activities. Schoolchildren can join for 10 or 15 minutes in the morning. If hundreds or thousands participate, the impact will be fast,” Prabowo said.

The Indonesia ASRI movement will also include regulating billboards, banners and outdoor advertisements that authorities say have become excessive and detract from urban aesthetics.

Prabowo said many cities now appear nearly identical due to the unchecked spread of large banners and advertisements dominating public spaces.

He said billboard management must be carried out in an orderly and persuasive manner, involving businesses and relevant industry associations to ensure compliance without harming economic activity.

The president also called for improved organisation of main roads, tourist areas and city centres, including the removal of tangled cables and better alignment of commercial building facades with their surroundings.

He said urban beauty is a key part of national image, public comfort and Indonesia’s appeal as a tourism destination, stressing that clean and orderly cities reflect the discipline of a nation.
