Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) conveyed that Mohammad Riza Chalid, currently on an Interpol Red Notice (RNI), is suspected of being in an ASEAN country.

"Investigators have gathered information that Riza Chalid is in one of the ASEAN countries," Head of the Attorney General's Office's Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, informed on Tuesday.

Riza Chalid is a suspect in a case of alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina Subholding and its Production Sharing Contract Contractors (KKKS) for the 2018–2023 period, which is currently under trial.

Although he is suspected of being in the ASEAN region, Supriatna could not confirm Riza Chalid's exact location.

However, he confirmed that the issuance of this red notice will restrict the suspect's movement, as it is monitored by immigration authorities in countries affiliated with Interpol.

Supriatna added that the red notice is voluntary, not mandatory or binding.

“If other countries are acting in good faith, they will notify Indonesian authorities when a fugitive is located in their territory. This information will then be conveyed to Indonesia through Interpol Indonesia’s National Central Bureau (NCB),” he explained.

The NCB of Interpol Indonesia announced that Interpol had issued a red notice for Mohammad Riza Chalid, or MRC, on January 23.

"Following the issuance of the red notice, we followed up by coordinating with our counterparts, both foreign and domestic, as well as with ministries and institutions," the Secretary of the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, remarked.

Widyatmoko confirmed that MRC's whereabouts remain under surveillance following the issuance of the Interpol Red Notice.

"We confirm that the person in question is in an Interpol member country, and we have mapped and monitored his whereabouts. A team is currently in the country in question," he said.

However, the suspect's specific location cannot be disclosed to the public for the sake of ensuring the smooth running of the law enforcement process.
