Abdul Karim Zaidan, an official of the South Kalimantan Tourism Office, stated in Banjarmasin on Thursday that the collaboration is aimed at strengthening tourism promotion and enhancing the competitiveness of regional destinations.
"The strengthening of cooperation is carried out across regions, with the South Kalimantan Tourism Office working with the South Sulawesi Provincial Government and the Southwest Papua Provincial Government. This is to build synergy between regions in eastern Indonesia," he said.
He stated that the collaboration will focus on joint promotion, tourism industry development, and the development of integrated tourism packages across regions.
"The scope of tourism cooperation within the BIMP-EAGA framework includes developing marketing and organizing joint agendas, strengthening the tourism industry, developing cross-regional tourism packages, and implementing sustainable tourism principles," he said.
Furthermore, the collaboration also targets the development of the creative economy as a key supporting sector for tourism, involving local businesses and the community.
He explained that one of the strategic focuses of the interprovincial collaboration is the development of a geopark in each region, including South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and Southwest Papua.
"Geopark development is a priority because it not only increases tourist attractions but also encourages environmental conservation and empowers local communities," Zaidan said.
By strengthening the BIMP-EAGA collaboration, the South Kalimantan Provincial Government hopes to foster sustainable collaboration between regions, thereby strengthening the position of regional tourism at the national and ASEAN levels, while simultaneously encouraging the growth of the creative economy in the region.
