Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s futsal team is motivated to win the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, citing the desire not to lose on home soil, midfielder Wendy Brian Ick said ahead of Saturday’s final.

The host nation will face Iran, aiming for their 14th title, at Indonesia Arena at 7 p.m. local time on Saturday, February 7.

“To motivate ourselves, we see this as our home. We don’t want to lose here,” Brian, from Jayapura, said at a pre-match press conference Friday in Jakarta.

Brian added that the team feels no pressure in the final, as it is Indonesia’s first appearance in a championship match.

Indonesia reached its best-ever finish in the Futsal Asian Cup after advancing to the semifinals Tuesday by defeating Vietnam 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

The team made history Thursday, beating Japan 5-3 in the semifinals after extra time to reach the final for the first time.

“For pressure, I think there’s none. This is our first final, so I feel completely relaxed,” Brian said, reflecting on the historic run.

Brian said there was nothing special about the 5-3 semifinal win over Japan, crediting adherence to instructions from head coach Hector Souto.

“There was no special tactic. We just followed what Coach Hector directed in the locker room, and I executed that,” Brian said.

He previously won the tournament’s best player award after Indonesia claimed the 2024 AFF Futsal title.

Brian has played in every match at the 2026 Asian Cup, scoring once in the 3-2 quarterfinal win over Vietnam.
