Speaking at the General Assembly Meeting and the 9th International Symposium of the Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI) in Jakarta on Monday, BRIN Head Arif Satria emphasized the importance of international partnerships in advancing science and innovation.
"Indonesia must continue to maintain strong international relations and close partnerships, especially through research and innovation," he said.
In addition to JSPS, BRIN is working with JAAI and the Indonesian Researchers Association (PPI) to expand scientific networks linking Indonesian, Japanese, and global academics.
Arif said scientific cooperation depends on trust and long-term collaboration in laboratories and fieldwork, with research networks providing platforms to form new partnerships.
He stressed the need to strengthen innovation and competitiveness by turning research ideas into practical products and bridging the gap between research and industry.
"National competitiveness reflects the contribution of research and innovation to the economy, supported by strong R&D institutions and high-quality human resources," he said.
The symposium, held on February 9–10 at BRIN’s Sarwono Prawiroharjo Science Complex in Jakarta, features keynote sessions, workshops, presentations, and an award lecture.
Activities include a workshop on carbon footprint calculation and life cycle assessment, as well as discussions on the SATREPS Biocircular Economy project.
Arif expressed hope the partnerships with JSPS, JAAI, and PPI would further strengthen Indonesia-Japan research cooperation while contributing to global scientific progress.
