Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia will offer a slate of green hydrogen ecosystem projects at the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit, or GHES 2026, as it steps up efforts to attract investment and accelerate its clean energy transition, the energy ministry said.

While opening the summit virtually in Jakarta on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot said the government is preparing ecosystem-based hydrogen projects using renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, and geothermal energy.

"We need to prepare projects that are based on a complete hydrogen ecosystem,” Yuliot said.

He noted that renewable-based hydrogen could be developed into high-value derivatives, including green ammonia, green methanol, and fuels, which offer strong export potential and support domestic energy and industrial demand.

Separately, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Eniya Listiani Dewi said the government has identified several projects to be offered at GHES 2026.

These include the Ulubelu green hydrogen plant in Lampung, the Lahendong plant in North Sulawesi, projects in Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara and East Java, and a waste-to-hydrogen project in Bandung, West Java.

Dewi said the projects have received government backing and are expected to yield clearer outcomes by July 2026, following further evaluation and the development of detailed action plans.

Indonesia designated hydrogen and ammonia as strategic new energy sources under Government Regulation No. 40 of 2025, targeting a 10 to 12 percent contribution to the national primary energy supply by 2060.

Hydrogen use in Indonesia is currently dominated by the fertilizer and oil refining industries, with national consumption at about 1.75 million tons annually, underscoring the need to diversify applications.

GHES 2026 aims to strengthen cross-sector collaboration to advance hydrogen development, supporting Indonesia’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner.
