Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the Indonesian government is finalizing its plan to deploy thousands of troops for peacekeeping missions in the Gaza Strip under the Board of Peace (BoP).

While the concrete deployment process is under discussion, Hadi confirmed that the number of Indonesian troops involved in the mission will be 8,000.

"The number of personnel we possibly will deploy to Gaza is around 8,000," Hadi stated here on Tuesday.

The minister also clarified that the location of deployment is not final, despite earlier reports that Indonesian troops would be assigned to Rafah in southern Gaza.

"We just started the preparation, and once the arrangement is finalized, we need to deploy our peacekeepers to fulfill our commitment," he stated.

Meanwhile, Hadi affirmed that Indonesia's involvement in the Board of Peace is in line with its commitment and support for the Palestinian cause, especially in supporting Palestinian independence and alleviating the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

Indonesia also expects its participation in the Board of Peace, along with 7 other Islamic countries, can help defuse conflict and open humanitarian access to the enclave.

"We hope that we can contribute to defusing the escalation in Gaza and that our brothers and sisters there will no longer suffer. We also expect the process will bolster the delivery of food to Gaza," the minister remarked.

Furthermore, Hadi confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto has been invited to attend the inaugural summit of the Board of Peace on February 19, 2026. However, the president's attendance has not been finalized.

He also noted that Indonesia has not paid its financial contribution to the Board of Peace, as the government needs to complete administrative procedures.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry affirmed that Indonesia's participation and contribution in Gaza, including troop deployment, is aimed solely to support Palestine's recovery and its fight for independence and sovereignty.

"Every contribution made by Indonesia is based on our commitment to support just and sustainable peace for Palestine according to the two-state solution," ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said on Tuesday.
