“We have been in discussions with Norway while making efforts to improve data verification, taking into account suggestions to raise the standard through ART-TREES,” he remarked during the launch of the fourth phase of the Community Fund for the Environment in Jakarta on Thursday.
He referred to Indonesia’s link to Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) and The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES), ART's standard for quantifying, monitoring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals from REDD+ activities at jurisdictional and national scales.
REDD+ is a United Nations-endorsed climate change mitigation framework focused on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries while also promoting forest conservation and enhancement.
Antoni noted that climate action financing under the ART-TREES scheme can help Indonesia achieve its 2030 Forestry and Other Land Use Net Sink emission reduction target.
"The government has registered 10 provinces into the ART-TREES scheme. In essence, we will continue to work in this direction," the minister said.
On the same occasion, Norwegian International Development Minister Åsmund Aukrust spoke highly of the long-standing cooperation between the two countries in a range of fields, including reforestation and emission reduction.
He expressed optimism that Indonesia and Norway would continue strengthening their collaboration in the future.
Under the bilateral climate partnership, Indonesia received US$56 million under RBC-1 for reducing 11.2 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent during 2016–2017.
The country subsequently earned a combined US$100 million under RBC-2 and RBC-3 for cutting 20 million tons of emissions during 2017–2019, and US$60 million under RBC-4 for emission reductions achieved in 2019–2020.
