Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, expressed optimism over the reciprocal tariff negotiations with the United States (US), as US President Donald Trump is said to respect President Prabowo Subianto.

"I see that President Prabowo's relationship with President Trump is very close. And I've heard from people around him that he (Trump) respects President Prabowo," Luhut spoke to reporters on Friday.

Although some minor issues occur in the negotiation process, he believes these obstacles are still under control, with negotiations being led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

President Prabowo is said to sign the final document of the Indonesia-United States (US) reciprocal tariff agreement with US President Donald Trump, after the legal drafting is completed.

Coordinating Minister Hartarto on Wednesday (February 11) said that the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs (ART) with the United States will be signed concurrently with President Prabowo Subianto's visit to the Board of Peace (BoP) Summit.

In this agreement, Indonesia commits to opening market access for US products, addressing various non-tariff barriers, strengthening cooperation in digital trade and technology, national security, and other commercial cooperation.

The United States has committed to providing tariff exemptions for a number of Indonesia's leading export products not produced in the US, including palm oil, cocoa, coffee, tea, and other strategic commodities.

Currently, Indonesia still faces a reciprocal tariff of 19 percent.

According to Hartarto, the reciprocal negotiation team has worked intensively to reach an agreement.

The Indonesian government is still awaiting a final decision before signing the reciprocal tariff.

"We have already lowered the tariff from 32 percent to 19 percent, and there are other matters that we will also wait for until everything is fully finalized," he added.
