"We warmly welcome bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Uruguay, particularly in the field of culture. As a follow-up, we can initiate a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for various important cooperation," he stated in a press statement on Saturday.
He proposed programs aimed at promoting the cultural identity of both countries, such as organizing art exhibitions, enhancing museum cooperation, and facilitating artist exchanges.
"We strongly support cultural activists participating in international residencies, including those between Uruguayan and Indonesian artists. Residency is an excellent program, as it provides a platform to showcase each country's cultural expression," he continued.
He then asked for Uruguay's support for Indonesia's candidacy as a Member of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for the next term, with elections scheduled for June 2026.
In addition, the minister encouraged further discussion regarding TIERRA VIVA, a cultural exhibition showcasing the works of Latin American artists planned for the National Gallery of Indonesia.
In the same statement, Ambassador of Uruguay to ASEAN, Cristina Gonzalez, expressed her hope for continued cultural diplomacy with Indonesia.
"This strategic dialogue between Uruguay and Indonesia is crucial for strengthening bilateral relations through the advancement of culture in both countries. We are delighted to continue collaboration across various sectors and building people-to-people contact between Uruguay and Indonesia," she conveyed.
In his closing remarks, Minister Fadli expressed hope that the cultural diplomacy forged with Uruguay would soon be realized into concrete initiatives, including cultural exchanges, to strengthen the bilateral cultural ecosystem.
"By making culture the basis of our partnership, Indonesia and Uruguay can strengthen enduring bilateral relations. Therefore, we can move quickly to develop cooperation in various areas, particularly culture," he concluded.
