Haruni Krisnawati, climate change adviser to the forestry minister, said the FCLP forum serves as a strategic platform to strengthen international cooperation in addressing climate change through sustainable forest management.
"It is crucial for countries to invest greater efforts in implementing concrete climate action in the forestry sector," she said in a statement on Monday.
Krisnawati highlighted Indonesia's experience in managing tropical forests, including its target to significantly reduce emissions from the forest and other land use (FOLU) sector by 2030.
She presented Indonesia's perspectives at the meeting, which gathered 34 of the 38 FCLP member countries. Indonesia attended as an observer alongside Brazil.
Meanwhile, the head of the Forestry Ministry's International Cooperation Bureau, Ristianto Pribadi, said Indonesia aimed to share best practices in sustainable forest management.
"Indonesia continues to strengthen sustainable forest management through strategic policies, including the Timber Legality and Sustainability Verification System, the social forestry program, land rehabilitation, and stronger forest fire prevention," he said.
He added that Indonesia also advocated a green and sustainable approach to wood-based construction.
Pribadi emphasized the need to synchronize standards, strengthen capacity, and expand technology transfers between countries to support a forest-based low-carbon economy.
"Indonesia's participation in this meeting is expected to strengthen its role in global forestry diplomacy and open opportunities for international cooperation and financing to support the FOLU Net Sink 2030 agenda," he said.
