MSP Operational Director An Sudarno said the move is intended to lower the company’s indirect emissions, known as Scope 2 emissions, while promoting more environmentally sustainable tin mining operations.
“Through this scheme, PT Mitra Stania Prima ensures that its electricity consumption in operational activities aligns with sustainability and environmental responsibility,” Sudarno said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
REC is a certification system that verifies that electricity consumed by a user is sourced from renewable energy generation. MSP is implementing the program in cooperation with state-owned power utility PT PLN (Persero).
According to Sudarno, electricity supported by RECs is integrated into several core operational technologies, including furnaces and tin refining processes that require significant power.
The company also uses REC-backed electricity for supporting equipment such as rotary dryers, overhead cranes and WP automation systems, which help improve operational efficiency and workplace safety.
In addition, MSP has deployed electric forklifts powered by the certified electricity as part of efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Sudarno said the initiative is expected to strengthen the company’s commitment to sustainable mining and contribute to the expansion of renewable energy projects in Indonesia.
