Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has announced the completion of supporting infrastructure and facilities for about 2,200 cooperatives established under the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program.

In a press statement received in Jakarta on Friday, Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Farida Farichah said the next stage involves procuring essential equipment, including merchandise shelves and transport vehicles.

She added that the government will verify all structures and equipment to ensure they meet quality and quantity standards before being officially handed over to village leaders.

"Once everything is complete and the handover is carried out, the cooperatives can finally begin operations," Farichah said.

The deputy minister highlighted that construction is still underway for about 31,000 cooperatives, with a broader target of covering all 83,000 entities already legalized across the country.

"We are open to input and criticism. Let us work together to make village cooperatives a success, ensuring that the KDMP program fulfills its primary goal of improving the welfare of rural communities," she said.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan reaffirmed the government's commitment to completing construction of 20,000 to 30,000 village cooperatives nationwide by June this year.

Speaking after a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (March 11), he assured the public of continued progress in physical development, noting that many cooperatives are nearing completion.

"Some cooperatives have progressed to 60 percent, 70 percent, and 80 percent completion," he said.

He added that the government's efforts include expediting land procurement to ensure the KDMP program reaches all villages.

"For villages without available land plots, assistance will be provided by governors or district heads, in line with provisions set by the Ministry of Home Affairs," Hasan explained, noting that the ministry will issue a circular for that purpose.

The minister said the KDMP program is expected to strengthen rural economies and broaden access to essential products and services for rural residents.
