"The directive issued by the central government will be implemented in the capital as well," he told the media in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
Pramono linked the president's order to growing public concerns that a protracted war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran could disrupt global energy supplies, with Indonesia likely facing challenges in accessing gas and fuel.
The governor observed that worsening security around the Persian Gulf has driven significant increases in global fuel prices.
However, he expressed confidence that panic buying would not affect Jakarta, noting that the capital still has sufficient stocks of gasoline despite alarming trends on the global stage.
During a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (March 13), President Prabowo called for measures to boost efficiency in fuel consumption to avoid adverse impacts from the Middle East conflict.
"We need to take proactive measures, meaning it is crucial that we save fuel. It may be true that our country is still safe, but it would be imprudent to downplay risks by failing to act on reducing our fuel consumption," he told ministers.
The head of state warned government aides that soaring fuel prices could render public access to food commodities more costly.
He added that the government, therefore, has moved to secure sufficient reserves of essential food products and intends to accelerate the implementation of strategic energy sector plans.
Even so, Prabowo affirmed that fuel efficiency remains crucial to ensure optimal anticipation of global shocks.
