“We stress and remind that a school’s selection (as a Garuda School) does not mean it becomes exclusive, nor does it separate itself from the ecosystem of other senior high schools,” Minister Yuliarto said at the launching and socialization of the 2026 Garuda Transformation School Selection here on Thursday.
The minister underlined that the Garuda Transformation schools are expected to serve as hubs and beacons that illuminate other high schools, thereby helping build a high-quality education ecosystem.
He noted that the policy also signals inclusivity, while encouraging similar improvements among other nearby senior high schools.
He affirmed that every school designated as a Garuda Transformation school is essentially a hub, or a center of excellence for its surrounding environment.
“The Garuda Transformation is not just about the school itself; it is expected to generate wider impact. If there are talented students or those who are interested, even if they do not study there, they are expected to benefit from or participate in the programs offered by the school,” he explained.
In 2026, the Ministry is targeting at least 30 of Indonesia’s top schools to join the Garuda school ecosystem.
“We certainly hope that the best senior high schools and madrasahs in Indonesia will become part of the Garuda ecosystem. More importantly, they are expected to produce more outstanding talents with global competitiveness, who will bring Indonesia to future prosperity,” Yuliarto remarked.
Prabowo-Gibran administration's Garuda School program, which focuses on STEM-based learning, is aimed at supporting Indonesian students to be able to study at the world’s top universities.
