In a statement received in Makassar on Saturday, Andi Sudirman said peace is the fundamental foundation for progress among nations.
“Peace is the solution for all countries. In a peaceful situation, development can proceed optimally and public welfare can be achieved,” he said.
The meeting also covered several national strategic programs underway in South Sulawesi, including infrastructure development, improving education quality, integrated connectivity and child nutrition initiatives.
He said the province holds a strategic position as a key logistics and distribution hub in eastern Indonesia, linking western and eastern regions.
“We also have programs to strengthen inter-regional connectivity through the Trans Sulsel public bus system, which now operates in the Mamminasata area (Makassar, Maros, Sungguminasa and Takalar),” he said.
The South Sulawesi provincial government is also opening opportunities for strategic partnerships with the United States, particularly in education and research.
Such collaboration is aimed at developing high-quality, innovative human resources capable of competing globally.
During the meeting, Haymond was accompanied by US Consul General Christopher Green and a delegation.
The US Embassy expressed interest in South Sulawesi’s cultural richness and tourism potential.
Investment opportunities are also wide open across priority sectors, including agro-industry and food downstreaming, renewable green energy, and economic infrastructure and logistics development.
There was also interest in learning the Makassar and Bugis languages, as well as exploring leading destinations such as Rammang-Rammang in Maros regency, which is recognized as part of a UNESCO Global Geopark.
