"China and Indonesia share many priorities in the health sector, particularly when it comes to transforming medical services and preventing diseases. To achieve shared goals, both countries can take notes from each other while pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.
Sadikin made the statement during a bilateral meeting with the Head of China's National Health Commission (NHC), Lei Haichao, in Beijing, China, on Friday (October 27), according to a statement received on Sunday.
The minister voiced Indonesia's eagerness to learn from China's success in reducing tuberculosis prevalence from medium to low, strengthening digitalization for the health system, and utilizing sophisticated technology such as the brain-to-computer interface.
He also appreciated Beijing for supporting a fellowship program that facilitated 113 Indonesian doctors to learn at multiple hospitals in China over the past year. He met several program participants during the Beijing visit.
While exchanging views on public health services and personnel capacity-building, Sadikin invited NHC Head Lei to Indonesia for a joint committee meeting in hopes of bolstering synergy in addressing ever-evolving challenges in the sector.
He also made the most of the Beijing visit by delivering a keynote speech at the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum, at the invitation of Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The Indonesian envoy spotlighted artificial intelligence (AI) in his speech, arguing that AI would never replace doctors but that those failing to utilize the technology would lag behind.
Furthermore, he met with representatives from Chinese health equipment, pharmaceutical, AI, and robotics companies, resulting in the signing of an agreement between an Indonesian pharmaceutical firm and China's Sinovac on vaccine development and production.
His Beijing agenda followed the signing of cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Health and Chinese health institutions during a meeting between Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chinese Premier Li Qiang last year.
The two countries have agreed to work together on Chinese traditional medicine, tuberculosis handling, and personnel exchange.
