Soeparno highlighted that the meeting coincided with 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. He said the UAE had shown strong commitment to supporting renewable energy development in Indonesia.
"We continue to make efforts to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates and to follow up on various agreements already signed, particularly those in renewable energy development," he said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He added that through its renewable energy company Masdar, the UAE has been involved in the development and management of the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in West Java, which is projected to become the world's largest of its kind.
The legislator noted the UAE's commitment to investing in the expansion of the 192megawatt peak PLTS as a tangible show of support for President Prabowo Subianto's mission to accelerate Indonesia's transition into renewable energy through a 100-gigawatt solar power program.
"We also assured the ambassador that the MPR will continue to support President Prabowo's steps and commitment to expediting Indonesia's transition into renewable energy," he added, pledging accelerated deliberations on relevant bills in parliament.
Soeparno specifically endorsed bills on oil and gas, new and renewable energy, and climate change mitigation.
Ambassador Al Dhaheri, for his part, appreciated the MPR for supporting his country's involvement in devising initiatives and plans for renewable energy and environmental sustainability in Indonesia.
He also regarded Wednesday's discussion as part of concrete efforts to step up bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
