Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has established an optimization team to improve the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, ensuring it is better targeted in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

BGN Deputy Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang said in a statement posted on her official Instagram account and quoted on Monday that the team was formed following a series of unannounced inspections and reviews at several schools and Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units.

The inspections were aimed at improving the quality and effectiveness of the MBG program.

“With the approval of BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, I established an optimization team for MBG distribution to ensure it is well targeted. The team consists of an investigation unit under my supervision, along with the deputy for promotion and cooperation and the deputy for monitoring and oversight,” she said.

She explained that the team has begun reviewing beneficiaries in Jakarta before expanding the assessment to other regions.

She added that high-cost private schools will be informed that they will no longer receive MBG assistance. Meanwhile, public schools in relatively affluent areas will be asked to complete questionnaires to identify students who wish to receive the meals and those who do not.

“Through this approach, MBG will be distributed to schools whose students are willing to receive it and genuinely need it. This screening process allows BGN to use the budget more efficiently and avoid waste, as uneaten meals contribute to food waste,” she said.

Deyang also recounted findings from inspections in several schools in Jakarta, where she observed that some meal boxes were left uneaten due to menu fatigue among students.

She further noted feedback from regional leaders whose children attend expensive private schools but still receive MBG assistance.

“They said it is inefficient because the food is often not consumed, and sometimes it is taken home and given to household staff,” she added.
