Speaking after his oath-taking, Karding highlighted Barantin as a new institution established with shielding Indonesia from risky animals and plants that could transmit diseases or invasive organisms.
"The quarantine agency is a new institution expected to help preventing diseases carried by animals and plants, particularly those from overseas, for entering Indonesia," Karding told the press at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
The quarantine supervision would be tightened, he said, while serving adequate efforts to maintain economic activities nationwide. Karding added strengthening the control should not hinder export and import activities, which are vital to the national economy.
