The deceased have been transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification.
Meanwhile, the injured are undergoing treatment at Bekasi Regional Public Hospital, Primaya Hospital, and Bakti Kartini Hospital.
"As of 8:45 a.m., 14 people are confirmed dead and 84 are injured. Response efforts are ongoing," KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said in a statement issued Tuesday.
KAI expressed its deepest condolences to the families affected by the collision, which involved the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek and a Commuter Line train in Bekasi, West Java.
The company emphasized that the evacuation has been a painstaking process, as several victims required specialized extraction from carriages that had telescoped upon impact.
"Every step is being taken with medical and safety precision to ensure optimal care," Rasyidin added, noting that teams from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), KAI, and emergency medical personnel are working in close coordination.
KAI assured that all medical expenses and funeral costs will be fully covered by the company and insurance providers.
The company also confirmed that all personal belongings recovered from the crash site have been secured at its Lost and Found facility.
To assist families, an emergency response command post and an information center have been established at Bekasi Timur Station. Inquiries can also be directed to the KAI 121 Contact Center.
Bekasi Timur Station remains closed to the public. While the downstream track has reopened to limited rail traffic, Commuter Line services are restricted, with all trains currently terminating at Bekasi Station.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba reiterated the company’s apologies to all passengers and victims' families.
"Our focus remains on ensuring every victim receives the best care, that families have the information they need, and that the entire response is handled with extreme caution and strong coordination," she asserted.
