“We did not expect to break a world record, as our sole focus was on performing to the best of our ability,” Dewi said after the event.
The pair clocked 13.174 seconds in the semifinal against China’s Yafei Zhou and Lijuan Deng, who had briefly surpassed the previous mark with 13.178 seconds.
The record‑breaking run advanced them to the final, where they defeated South Korea’s Jimin Jeong and Hanareum Sung to claim the gold medal.
“I present this medal to Indonesia,” Dewi said.
Asih also expressed her joy, especially after missing out in an individual event. “This gold medal means so much for me. Thank you for all the support we received,” she remarked.
Indonesia added a silver medal in the men’s speed relay after Raharjati Nursamsa and Antasyafy Robby Al Hilmi finished in 9.80 seconds, just 0.05 seconds behind host athletes Jianguo Long and Yincheng Zhao in the final.
The Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation (FPTI) fielded eight athletes in both individual and relay speed events against competitors from China, Thailand, South Korea, and Japan at the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games.
The team also included Aditya Tri Syahria, Ramaski Aswin Kristanto, Puja Lestari, and Amanda Narda Mutia.
In speed relay, climbers compete in pairs to post the fastest combined time. One athlete triggers the timer at the top before the partner continues without a reset, and the pair with the lowest time wins.
