Banyuwangi, East Java (ANTARA) - Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said Banyuwangi District, East Java, has introduced numerous breakthroughs as well as creative and strategic programs in the education sector.

“Especially services for those who do not have the opportunity to attend school for various reasons. Therefore, today I attended the National Education Day (Hardiknas) commemoration with the Banyuwangi Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, which was solemn and very lively,” he said here on Saturday.

Minister Mu’ti also praised Banyuwangi’s Human Development Index (HDI), which has continued to increase year by year. The district’s HDI reached 75.17 in 2025, up from 74.3 in 2024, and also higher than 73.79 (2023), 73.15 (2022), and 72.62 (2021).

“That is a very good achievement, and earlier I spoke with the regent before the event began. Banyuwangi has many breakthroughs and creative as well as strategic programs in education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Banyuwangi District Head Ipuk Fiestiandani said the district has a number of creative programs aimed at ensuring school-age children remain in education.

She cited the Regional Movement to Support Out-of-School Youth (Garda Ampuh), which focuses on identifying school dropouts and helping them return to school through various schemes.

There is also the peer foster students program, in which economically better-off students set aside part of their pocket money, which is then pooled to help meet the needs of less privileged students, such as purchasing bicycles, glasses, and other school necessities, even for students from other schools.

She added that for Banyuwangi, education is not only about academics, but also about integrating children’s potential in arts, culture, and other fields.

“This is why Banyuwangi involves students in every arts and cultural agenda, including today’s Kuntulan Ewon mass performance,” she said.
