Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has completed nearly all planned temporary housing units for residents displaced by last year’s floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, authorities said, marking a key milestone in post-disaster recovery efforts.

Data from the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (PRR) that ANTARA quoted here Tuesday showed that as of May 4, 2026, 1,024 temporary homes were built in North Sumatra and 830 units in West Sumatra.

In Aceh Province, 16,785 units have been completed out of 18,380 planned, representing about 91% progress, according to the task force’s latest figures.

Overall, the temporary housing program across the three provinces has reached 18,639 units, or around 92 percent of the total target of 20,234 homes.

The program is a cross-sector effort involving the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), public housing ministries, regional governments, the military, police, humanitarian groups, and local communities.

With temporary shelters nearing completion, authorities said the task force is shifting focus toward accelerating permanent housing construction for long-term resettlement of displaced residents.

Permanent housing development remains at an early stage, with 248 units completed and 1,661 under construction, or about 4.2 percent of the total 39,501 units planned.

In Aceh, 104 permanent homes have been completed, while 820 more are under construction as part of a broader target of 29,076 units for the province.

In North Sumatra, 120 of 7,601 planned permanent homes have been completed, with 407 additional units under development as rebuilding efforts continue.

In West Sumatra, 24 permanent houses have been completed and 434 are under construction out of a target of 2,824 units, according to official data.

Authorities said the transition from temporary shelters to permanent housing marks a critical phase in restoring livelihoods and rebuilding communities affected by the natural disasters.
