Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief Executive Officer of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara Rosan Roeslani confirmed that his team had channeled capital into technology company GoTo, operator of the ride-hailing platform Gojek, with plans to increase its stake.

“We have bought into the company, and we will gradually raise our shares,” he told the media at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Roeslani, who concurrently serves as Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, did not disclose the size of Danantara’s current stake or provide details on the targeted ownership level and investment scheme, simply confirming reports about the government's share acquisition of GoTo.

House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Ahmad Muzani first unveiled the investment while receiving labor union representatives at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on May 1 during an International Workers’ Day rally.

Without mentioning any company, he said Danantara had acquired ride-hailing shares to limit operators’ commission fees to 8 percent of drivers’ per-trip earnings.

“The primary objective is to lower the fees levied by application operators, from the current rates ranging between 20 and 10 percent to only 8 percent,” he remarked.

The government intends the move to push online taxi platforms to gradually adjust their commissioning policies, eventually better serving drivers’ interests, he added.

The commission fee capping policy is stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026, which President Prabowo Subianto introduced to thousands of workers gathering for his May Day speech at the National Monument complex that morning.

“I hereby affirm that I do not agree with a 10 percent fee; the rate must be below that,” he said.

The head of state emphasized that the regulation is intended to protect the rights of ride-hailing drivers, whom he views as working under demanding conditions and facing daily risks on the road, while also dealing with income uncertainty.

The rule also requires companies to provide social security coverage for online taxi drivers.
