Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has underscored the importance of enhancing communication and internet access for communities in Indonesia’s outermost regions to ensure they remain connected and experience the presence of the state.

During a working visit to Miangas, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on Saturday, President Prabowo stated that the government will provide assistance that includes hundreds of Starlink service units, mobile phones, internet modems, and the strengthening of telecommunications infrastructure through the development of base transceiver stations (BTS).

“Then we will strengthen the network so that mobile phones can operate here. Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid is here and will provide mobile phones, Starlink units, and phones for every household,” President Prabowo said, according to a livestream broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

The president emphasized that communication connectivity is no longer merely an additional facility but has become a basic necessity for modern society and an essential part of national defense and sovereignty.

For this reason, he stressed that Indonesia’s outermost regions must be a development priority to prevent communities from becoming isolated and to ensure adequate access to communication services.

President Prabowo noted that strengthening the communication network in Miangas is expected to support daily activities across sectors, including education, healthcare services, and the economic activities of coastal communities and fishermen.

Improved communication access is also seen as crucial for emergency communications in border areas. The government believes that enhanced internet and telecommunications access will open new economic opportunities for local communities.

“The presence of a stable communication network is also expected to improve public service quality and accelerate community access to various government digital services,” President Prabowo added.

The efforts to enhance connectivity in Miangas reflect the government’s development direction, which no longer focuses solely on major cities but extends to outer islands that serve as the front line of national sovereignty.

Through these initiatives, President Prabowo reaffirmed that the state is committed to ensuring all Indonesians, including those living in border regions, have equal access to information, communication, and national development.
