He explained that the arrival of the raw material follows the needs of industry players who had previously experienced supply constraints.
"It will arrive mid-May. I will update you again later," Santoso said here on Wednesday.
According to him, the government continues to monitor developments in raw material supplies to maintain the sustainability of production in the domestic plastic manufacturing sector.
Santoso also informed that the plastic raw materials arriving in mid-May will come from the United States.
The government had previously also sought alternative sources of supply from other countries to anticipate industrial needs.
"Earlier, we had sought solutions from India and Africa, but the shipment arriving in mid-May is from the United States," he said.
He stressed that the import policy was implemented as a measure to maintain the stability of the industrial supply chain while ensuring that national production activities are not disrupted.
The government, he added, continues to encourage increased domestic production while maintaining measured import arrangements to meet industrial needs.
The Trade Ministry will continue to provide updates on import realization and developments in the supply of plastic raw materials going forward.
He noted that naphtha, the main feedstock for plastic resin, has traditionally been supplied largely from the Middle East. However, global conditions have led to longer shipping times, while competition among countries for the material has intensified.
