During the inauguration in Nganjuk District, East Java, on Saturday, the president said that KDKMPs had been prepared and that physical construction had begun in thousands of locations since November last year.
"This afternoon, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, I hereby inaugurate the operation of 1,061 Red and White Village and Sub-district Cooperatives," Prabowo stated before pressing the inauguration button.
According to him, the presence of KDKMPs across various regions will help boost Indonesia’s economy from the village level while also supporting rural self-reliance.
Prabowo said the government is targeting at least 20,000 similar cooperatives to be operational by August this year.
“From these initial 1,000 cooperatives, I was informed that by August we aim to inaugurate 30,000 cooperatives. Even if we only reach 20,000, that would still be an achievement I rarely see in other countries,” he remarked.
On the occasion, Prabowo was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Indonesian Defense Forces Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, People’s Consultative Assembly Speaker Ahmad Muzani, and several other government officials.
The inauguration marked the completion of 1,061 cooperatives, consisting of 530 KDKMP units across seven districts in East Java and 531 units across eight districts and cities in Central Java.
Each KDKMP employs 17 workers, all recruited from local villages.
The government, through state-owned enterprise PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, is also building another 25,000 cooperative units as of May 2026.
The government targets the completion and full operation of 30,000 KDKMPs by August 2026.
The cooperative program is part of President Prabowo’s sixth Asta Cita initiative, which is aimed at stimulating local economies and accelerating poverty alleviation from the village and sub-district levels.
The KDKMP program was launched under Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025 on the Acceleration of the Establishment of Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperatives, issued on March 27, 2025.
