“The meeting between President Trump and President Xi is important, as it is expected to send a positive signal for global and market stability amidst uncertainty,” the Indonesian ambassador to China and Mongolia stated on Saturday.
His remarks followed the leaders’ talks in Beijing on Thursday (May 14), which included a visit to the Temple of Heaven and a state banquet.
Discussions continued on Friday (May 15), when Trump received a private tour of the Zhongnanhai complex, the official residence of Xi and senior Communist Party officials.
The ambassador also highlighted the composition of American business delegates accompanying Trump, saying it reflected the future of U.S.–China cooperation.
“It shows the direction of future cooperation in technology, artificial intelligence, supply chains, and financial sectors,” Oratmangun remarked.
He added that the dynamics between the two countries would eventually affect Indonesia.
During Thursday’s banquet, Xi said he and Trump had agreed to establish constructive China–U.S. relations with strategic stability and to encourage stable, healthy, and sustainable bilateral ties.
“We can help each other succeed and advance the well-being of the whole world,” Xi stated.
At the same occasion, Trump said the U.S. and China would strive to realize a future of greater prosperity, cooperation, happiness, and peace for generations to come.
He also invited Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan to visit the White House on September 24.
Trump was accompanied by several prominent business leaders, including Tim Cook of Apple, Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, Elon Musk of Tesla, Kelly Ortberg of Boeing, and Dina Powell McCormick of Meta.
