Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono stated that a total of 1,061 Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) in East Java and Central Java have begun operations and are set to absorb various products from village communities.

“The KDMPs that have begun operating will become off-takers for various village community products, ranging from agriculture, plantations, fisheries, and handicrafts to culinary products,” he said in a statement received here on Monday.

According to him, the presence of the Red and White Village Cooperatives is expected to strengthen the rural economy by opening wider market access for local products.

In addition, he assured that the cooperatives would also play a role in distributing and providing basic necessities and subsidized goods for the public.

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operations of the 1,061 KDMPs in East Java and Central Java, a ceremony symbolically held at the Red and White Cooperative of Nglawak Village, Nganjuk District, East Java, on Saturday (May 16).

Juliantono revealed that the operation of the 1,061 KDMPs marked the initial stage of nationwide cooperative development.

Overall, he said the establishment of KDMPs has reached nearly 9,200 units, which will gradually become operational across various regions.

“This marks the beginning for the KDMPs. Construction has reached nearly 100 percent for around 9,200 units, although in the first stage, only 1,061 units have begun operating,” he said.

Furthermore, the government is targeting a massive expansion of KDMP operations in the next stage. By August 2026, the number of operating cooperatives is targeted to reach tens of thousands of units.

“Although the target is 20,000 units, we will make maximum efforts to exceed that number,” Minister Juliantono remarked.
