Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Indroyono Soesilo said the regulation provides a clearer framework for developing forestry carbon trading through greenhouse gas offset schemes.
“With the issuance of the regulation, we now have a stronger foundation to accelerate forestry carbon trading,” Soesilo said in a statement.
He said Verra holds a strategic role because many Indonesian forestry businesses are interested in adopting its carbon-credit methodology.
On May 15, Indonesian delegates met Verra to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a major global holder of forest carbon potential and expand green investment tied to sustainable forest management.
Soesilo said Indonesia must improve human-resource capacity to produce high-quality, integrated carbon credits that meet international standards.
He also called for closer cooperation with Verra to strengthen technical capabilities and carbon verification systems, aiming to boost global market confidence.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Forest Concessionaires Association Chairman Soewarso said 16 APHI member projects are being fast-tracked for carbon-credit trading under Verra’s scheme.
He said interest among APHI members in voluntary carbon-market projects continues to rise alongside the sector’s development in Indonesia.
The association aims to deepen cooperation with Verra in methodology development, workforce training and high-integrity forestry carbon projects.
Verra Senior Director Sinclair Vincent described Regulation P.6/2026 as a milestone for expanding voluntary carbon projects in Indonesia.
“We are open to collaboration with APHI to strengthen capacity building and produce high-integrity carbon credits,” Vincent said.
Verra said it is accelerating verification, validation and issuance of carbon-credit certificates while complying with Indonesia’s latest forestry carbon-trading regulation.
The organization is also seeking recognition from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market for its methodologies to strengthen credibility in the global voluntary carbon market.
