Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Eid al-Adha prayer for 1447 Hijri at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday carried the theme "The Spirit of Sacrifice, Caring for Nature and Humanity," in line with the Ministry of Religious Affairs' main theme of ecotheology and theology of love.

The prayer sermon was delivered by Rector of the State Islamic University (UIN) Alauddin Makassar, Prof. H. Hamdan Juhannis.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka joined thousands of Muslims in performing the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, under tight yet conducive security arrangements.

Several state officials were also in attendance, including Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, and several foreign ambassadors to Indonesia, including the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattiri.

People attending prayers at Southeast Asia's largest mosque were also required to observe order, comfort, and adhere to applicable health protocols.

Located on Jalan Taman Wijaya Kusuma, Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, the Istiqlal Mosque can accommodate up to 200,000–250,000 people. However, this year’s Eid al-Adha committee projects attendance at around 100,000–150,000 worshippers, in line with previous years.

Regarding the slaughter of sacrificial animals, Minister of Religious Affairs and Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque Nasaruddin Umar said on Monday (May 25) that the process would be carried out hygienically without polluting the river or the surrounding environment.

"Not a single drop of blood or waste entered the river. Everything has been prepared with a proper management system," Umar said.

As of Monday, the Istiqlal Mosque had received 59 cows and seven goats for sacrificial animals.

The mosque also implements a data-driven distribution system to ensure Eid al-Adha sacrificial meat reaches beneficiaries most in need.

"God willing, there will be no inappropriate distribution because we have a list by name and address," the minister remarked.
