Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto initiated the expansion of French language learning at all levels of education in Indonesia as part of strengthening educational cooperation with France.

He conveyed this in his remarks at a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris, France, on Thursday (May 28) local time.

"We aim to strengthen education. I have instructed that all levels of Indonesian schools must learn French language, considering the global development in the future," he remarked in an online broadcast in the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Thursday.

He mentioned that mastery of foreign languages, including French, is necessary to prepare younger generation to face the evolving global dynamics, along with the increasingly close relationship between Indonesia and France in various sectors.

Prabowo assessed that cooperation between the two countries in the fields of science and technology continues to show positive developments. He also underlined the important roles of Indonesia and France in maintaining global stability amidst increasing global uncertainty.

Prabowo then said that growing progress in science and technology has made the world more connected, diminishing the value of war and conflict for any side.

On that occasion, he also stated that Indonesia and France share many similar views on several international issues. He appreciated President Macron's support, which he believes has contributed to the close bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"In several respects, Indonesia and France share the same stance, and our bilateral relationship is currently very good. This is due to President Macron's direct support," he addressed.

Prabowo's visit to France this week is in response to President Macron's delayed invitation.

Some of the issues discussed at this bilateral meeting include cooperation in defense, clean energy, education, research, and the implementation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA).
