Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto recently received a visit from the Hebei Provincial Government delegation, led by Deputy Governor Zhao Chenxin, to discuss the cooperation.
In a statement on Friday, Hartarto emphasized the significance of the economic relationship between the two countries, noting that Indonesia's trade volume with China has now reached three times its total trade volume with Europe and the United States combined.
He emphasized that Indonesia is currently strongly encouraging investment due to its significant multiplier effect on the national economy.
"This investment is projected to expand employment opportunities for the community and increase the country's foreign exchange earnings through its production," Hartarto said.
This investment provides a strong foundation for a strategic partnership, particularly in supporting the success of the national downstreaming program currently being focused on by the government, such as in the nickel and bauxite sectors.
He also expressed his appreciation to China for being a strategic partner in the development of these downstream products.
As a step to accelerate strategic economic regions in seizing future growth opportunities, Hartarto also outlined Indonesia's readiness to provide several strategic economic zones optimized for high-tech industries and the development of smart technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).
In particular, Hartarto highlighted the strategic potential of eastern Indonesia, particularly North Sulawesi, as a gateway to international data connectivity.
The location is considered highly prospective for data center development due to its geographic advantage, as it is directly connected to the global transmission network to the US, ensuring efficient cross-border data access.
Deputy Governor Zhao Chenxin expressed his positive response and commitment by praising the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs' role in taking strategic steps to create a conducive investment climate through various policies.
Zhao emphasized Hebei Province's commitment to encouraging the active participation of Hebei-based entrepreneurs in expanding their operations in Indonesia.
Hebei Province is experiencing rapid development in industries based on smart technology and AI development.
The Hebei government welcomed Hartarto's input and will soon communicate it to the Chinese business community for concrete action and future investment consideration.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain intensive communication, including future discussions on logistics efficiency through shipping line development.
Hartarto also expressed interest in discussing with China their experience in handling shipping line issues.
