Deputy Minister of the ministry, Stella Christie, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday, emphasized that the government’s commitment is also manifested through the Garuda Schools program, which has increased the number of Indonesian students accepted into top universities worldwide, including in the US.
"We are pleased to report that the number of admissions has increased significantly. For the 12 Garuda Schools, there has been a 150 percent increase in the number of students accepted into the world's top 100 universities," she said.
In an effort to strengthen the capacity of teachers and principals, Christie is promoting workshops and comparative studies at schools in the US. The programs are expected to broaden the perspective of global education.
Furthermore, the deputy minister is also opening opportunities for visiting teachers or top graduates from US universities to teach at Garuda Schools, as well as for student exchanges and international study tours.
"We are very open to jointly considering a program model like TeachUSA that could be developed specifically for Garuda Schools. There will be four new Garuda schools and other Garuda Transformation schools that are also very open to accepting these teachers," she said.
In response, the Charge d'Affairs ad Interim of the US Embassy, Peter M. Haymond, expressed his support for various efforts to expand access to superior education throughout Indonesia to attract the nation's best talent.
Haymond added that his office has collaborated with schools in the US to introduce the Garuda School program through online workshops and in-person visits.
The ministry also highlighted the need to align the Garuda Scholarship selection schedule with the admission deadlines for American universities.
The synchronization is considered crucial so that Indonesian students do not miss out on the opportunity to continue their studies at their chosen universities due to delays in funding certainty.
