"I hope in the future, the President's target of establishing at least one permanent public school in each regency/city and at least two at the provincial level can be implemented by the province and regency," he said in Kupang on Sunday.
He made this statement while attending the commemoration of National Elderly Day in Kupang, which was also attended by Family Hope Program (PKH) facilitators, Sekolah Rakyat students, regional heads, and the governor.
Now there is only one Sekolah Rakyat in NTT, but it still uses a building owned by the Ministry of Social Affairs at the Effata Center in Kupang.
The permanent building located in Oelnasi Village, Central Kupang, is now under construction.
The Minister hopes that there will be 22 Sekolah Rakyat in NTT, where each regency/city has one permanent building, and the province has two.
"There will be two schools in NTT. Those attending, of course, are residents of Kupang and all children in NTT," he said.
However, he added that all of this can only happen if the local government prepares the land, as the Kupang Regency government has done.
"The construction of permanent SRMP in each regency/city in NTT depends on the land availability. If the land is ready, the Ministry of Public Works will build them because they determine whether it is suitable or not," he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs will submit applications based on requests from governors, regents, and mayors.
After attending the event, the minister and his entourage continued their working visit to Kupang Regency to monitor the progress of the permanent SRMP building currently under construction.
