"Regional irrigation projects mandated under the President's instruction have reached 82.73 percent physical completion," Dody told a parliamentary hearing with Commission V of the House of Representatives in Jakarta.
The program has a budget allocation of about Rp350 billion ($21.4 million) and targets improvements across 19,760 hectares of farmland. Financial realization stood at 38.36 percent as of May, the minister added.
The initiative is being implemented under Presidential Instruction No. 2 of 2025, which calls for the accelerated development, upgrading, rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of irrigation networks to support national food self-sufficiency.
The policy is designed to strengthen coordination between the central and regional governments, increase agricultural output, and support Indonesia's broader development goals under the country's Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. Funding for the initiative comes from both the state budget and regional government budgets, according to the presidential instruction.
Indonesia has placed irrigation infrastructure at the center of its efforts to boost farm productivity and strengthen food resilience against climate-related challenges.
In 2025, the Ministry of Public Works completed the construction and rehabilitation of irrigation networks covering 589,605.80 hectares as part of broader efforts to improve agricultural output and secure food supplies.
Dody said irrigation development remains a priority because reliable access to water is essential for maintaining crop production and supporting the government’s food self-sufficiency agenda.
The ministry is continuing irrigation projects across the archipelago to improve water management, increase agricultural yields, and support regional economic growth.
